Furniture Care Guide
Regular care can help maintain the appearance, comfort, and condition of your Proctor Mercantile furniture. Cleaning methods vary according to fabric, leather, finish, and construction, so always follow the instructions supplied with your specific product.
Fabric Sofas and Sectionals
Vacuum upholstered surfaces regularly using a suitable upholstery attachment.
For spills, gently blot the area with a clean, absorbent cloth. Avoid scrubbing aggressively or soaking the fabric. Use only cleaning products suitable for the particular upholstery material.
Leather and Faux Leather
Remove dust with a soft cloth and clean spills promptly.
Avoid abrasive pads, harsh chemicals, and excessive moisture. Where possible, position furniture away from prolonged direct sunlight and strong heat sources.
Use only products recommended for the specific material or finish.
Sofa Beds
Follow the manufacturer's instructions when opening, closing, or converting a sofa bed.
Keep the mechanism clear of bedding and other objects that could interfere with its movement. Do not force hinges or moving components when resistance occurs.
Recliners and Moving Parts
Operate recliners and other moving furniture components only as intended. If a mechanism becomes difficult to operate, avoid applying excessive force and consult the supplied instructions.
Everyday Maintenance
- Keep furniture on a stable, level surface.
- Lift furniture when repositioning it instead of dragging it across floors.
- Avoid exceeding the recommended weight capacity.
- Clean spills promptly.
- Protect surfaces from prolonged direct sunlight.
- Keep liquids away from sensitive mechanical or electrical components.
- Check accessible hardware periodically.
Cleaning and Stain Treatment
Different upholstery and finishes require different treatments. Before applying a cleaning product, review the manufacturer's instructions and test only where the instructions recommend it.
Do not use bleach, solvents, abrasive cleaners, or other harsh treatments unless specifically approved for the product.
